Welcome to Willow Class
In Year 4, children continue to develop their independence while engaging in a broad and exciting curriculum. To enrich their learning, we plan a variety of opportunities throughout the year, including school trips, themed days, and visits from external guests.
We place a strong emphasis on high standards of behaviour and encourage children to build resilience and independence, both of which are essential to their personal and academic development.
The Year 4 team and I are delighted to be working with your children this year and look forward to supporting them in achieving their very best this academic year.
Meet the Team
Mrs. Coxon – Class Teacher
Mrs. Thompson – Teaching Assistant
Mrs. Hankinson – Covers PPA
Mrs. Younger – Supports with interventions
PE Days
Our PE sessions take place on Wednesday and Friday. On these days, children must come to school dressed in their full PE kits.
Forest School
In late autumn, the children take part in Forest School sessions with Mrs Smith, who is a highly experienced Forest School practitioner.
Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
In June, the children take the Multiplication Tables Check test. This is a national test for all Year 4 children and is completed on a tablet device. Children can practise for this test using MTC - Multiplication Tables Check - MTC - Multiplication Tables Check - URBrainy.com
Homework
To support learning at home, we encourage:
- Reading – Every night, for approximately 10 - 15 minutes, to build confidence and fluency. Please use the adult support leaflet attached to their reading record to support them further. Additionally, please sign their reading record daily when you have listened to them read.
- Spelling – Weekly spelling lists to practice at home.
- Times Tables – Regular practice using TT Rockstars to improve multiplication skills, which will also help support work in class in preparation for the MTC in June.
I look forward to supporting and encouraging your child’s learning throughout their time in Willow Class.
Thank you.
