Welcome to Cherry Class
Welcome to Cherry Class! We are delighted to welcome you to Year 3 and the beginning of Key Stage 2. This is an exciting year as children build on the skills they developed in Key Stage 1 and grow into confident, independent learners.
In Cherry Class, we work hard, show kindness and encourage one another to achieve our very best. We aim to create a happy, supportive classroom where every child feels they belong, believes in themselves and is inspired to be the best they can be.
Throughout the year, we will enjoy a broad and exciting curriculum. We will become archaeologists as we explore the Stone Age to Iron Age, travel back in time to discover life in Roman Britain, and investigate our local area as geographers. Alongside our classroom learning, children will enjoy educational visits, visitors, Forest School and a range of practical experiences that bring learning to life and create lasting memories.
We look forward to working in partnership with you throughout the year to support your child's learning, confidence and wellbeing.

Our PE lessons take place every Wednesday and Friday.
Children should come to school wearing their full PE kit on these days:
- Red KWPS PE T-shirt

- Black shorts
- Black tracksuit bottoms (weather dependent)
- Black trainers
Please ensure that all clothing is clearly named.
Forest School
During the Spring Term, Cherry Class takes part in weekly Forest School sessions led by Mr Smith.
Linked to our curriculum (Stone Age), these sessions provide exciting opportunities for outdoor learning, teamwork, problem-solving and developing practical skills while exploring the natural environment.
Children should come dressed appropriately for the weather, as Forest School takes place outdoors in all seasons.
Working Together
We value the strong partnership between home and school. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us through Class Dojo or via the school office. We look forward to working together to make Year 3 a happy, successful and memorable year for every child.
Life in Cherry Class
In Cherry Class, we encourage children to be curious, resilient and independent learners. We celebrate effort, perseverance and kindness, ensuring that every child feels valued and confident to take on new challenges. We work together to create a classroom where everyone feels they belong, believes in themselves and is inspired to be the best they can be.
Homework
We believe that regular practice at home helps children develop confidence and independence. To support learning at home, we expect:
Reading
Children should read for 10–15 minutes every evening. Please sign your child's Reading Record each time you hear them read. The Reading Record also contains useful guidance to help support reading at home.
Spellings
Weekly spellings will be sent home to practise throughout the week. These are sent home on a Friday and tested the following Friday. Spelling patterns linked to the spellings also taught throughout the week in class.
Times Tables
Regular practice on Times Tables Rock Stars helps children develop fluency and confidence with multiplication facts.
Grammar
Children will be set weekly learning on SPaG.com.
Children can also access Rollama to practise grammar skills in a fun and engaging way.
