Welcome to Elm Class

Welcome to Elm Class! We are delighted to welcome you and your child to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Starting school is a very special milestone, and we are excited to begin this journey together.

In Elm Class, we provide a happy, nurturing and stimulating environment where every child feels safe, valued and encouraged to explore. Through play, investigation and hands-on experiences, children develop confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning. We work closely with families to ensure every child has the very best start to their school life and is supported to Belong, Believe and Be the Best They Can Be.

Throughout the year, children enjoy a wide range of exciting learning experiences both indoors and outdoors. We explore the changing seasons, discover the world around us, develop early reading, writing and maths skills, and enjoy visits and visitors that bring our learning to life.

We look forward to working in partnership with you throughout the year and celebrating every achievement along the way.

PE

Our PE lessons take place every Tuesday and Thursday.

For health and safety reasons, please ensure earrings are removed before school on PE days and long hair is tied back.

Snack Time

Each day, children enjoy a healthy snack of fruit or vegetables along with a carton of milk to help keep them energised and ready to learn.

If you would like your child to have an additional snack such as toast, crumpets or pancakes, these can be ordered through ParentPay.

Please also ensure your child brings a clearly labelled water bottle to school each day.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning is an important part of life in Elm Class. Children have daily opportunities to explore, investigate and learn in our outdoor environment, whatever the weather.

Please ensure your child brings a waterproof coat to school every day so they can enjoy outdoor learning throughout the year.

We also take part in Forest School sessions, where children develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and a love of nature through exciting outdoor experiences.

Visits and Enrichment

Throughout the year, children enjoy a wide range of visits and enrichment opportunities that bring their learning to life and help them develop curiosity, confidence and a love of the world around them. We make regular visits to Kirkham Library to foster a love of reading and books, and explore our local area through seasonal Autumn, Spring and Summer Walks, observing how the environment changes throughout the year. During the Spring Term, we welcome our caterpillars into the classroom and watch them grow and transform into beautiful butterflies, helping children understand life cycles through first-hand experiences. In the Summer Term, we enjoy an exciting visit to Farmer Ted's Adventure Farm, where children take part in practical outdoor learning, and also learn important road safety skills to help them become increasingly independent. These memorable experiences enrich our curriculum, develop children's understanding of the world and create lasting memories during their first year at school.

Keeping You Updated

We love sharing the children's learning and achievements with you.
