At  KWPS, the health, safety and well-being of every child is our paramount concern. We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. Our aim is that children will enjoy their time as pupils in this school. We want to work in partnership with you to help your child to achieve their full potential and make a positive contribution. All staff are annually trained in line with the latest guidance KCSiE 2023.

How we promote a safe environment for our pupils
  • Our selection and recruitment policy includes all checks on staff and regular volunteers’ suitability, including DBS checks, in accordance with current legislation.
  • We have Designated Safeguarding Leaders (DSL) for Child Protection (Mr Lee Glynn, Mrs Dawn Hankinson and Mrs Hayley Pye), who have all received appropriate training for this role. It is their responsibility to ensure that all staff in contact with children receive child protection awareness training on a regular basis.
  • On occasions our concern about a child may mean that we have to consult other agencies. Unless it is not safe for a child, we would always aim to achieve this with a parent's consent. The procedures we follow have been laid down by the Local Safeguarding Children's Board, and the school has adopted a Child Protection Policy in line with this for the safety of all.

  • As part of our commitment to keeping children safe, we are proud to be part of Operation Encompass.

Operation Encompass is a unique Police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.

Being part of Encompass means our DSL, Mr Glynn, will receive a notification from Lancashire Police before the start of the next school day when a child has been involved in or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous day. The information is given in confidence and will enable us to provide the best possible support for the child.

If you have any questions or wish to know more about our involvement in Operation Encompass please do not hesitate to contact Mr Glynn, the Headteacher.

As a school we do all we can to support our families, should you like help with any aspects of school or family life please get in touch with us. Mrs Pye offers early help to families that would like support.
